Journey Of The Dreamer
Bethel was born in Bulawayo Mpilo Hospital in Zimbabwe. He was brought up in a Christian family in Gwabalanda Luveve in Bulawayo. That’s where he did his primary and secondary education. As young Bethel was growing up, he would only get a pair of shoes and perhaps a pair of new clothes once a year at Christmas, whereas the other children in the home would be spoiled at any point during the year, as well as during the Christmas season. The shoes he received were always the infamous “weather intolerant” Plastic Sandak, which were notorious for freezing the feet during the harsh winter months, leaving him both uncomfortable and self-conscious. Yet, the name Bethel, which means “House of God,” did not change the fact that his childhood would be marked by profound loneliness, as the pervasive air of rejection from family members remained a painful reality that followed him throughout his boyhood. He faced an incredibly tough childhood that was exacerbated by frequent bouts of illness. Bethel suffered from outbreaks of septic sores that spread across his body, and the torment of evil spirits haunted him relentlessly. His nights were often plagued by incoherent spells, during which he would experience terrifying hallucinations, believing he was engaged in conversations with unknown figures from beyond. These episodes would often compel him to leave the safety of his home and run toward the cemetery, as though drawn by an invisible force. His elder brother, fearful for his safety, constantly had to restrain him to prevent him from acting on these dangerous impulses. Desperate for relief, his father sought various remedies, including traditional healing practices, but none offered a solution to Bethel’s suffering. Then came the pivotal moment at the age of nine. During a particularly severe episode of his illness, a man of God laid hands on Bethel in a ministration that would ultimately serve as a turning point in his life. That very night, as he slept alongside his siblings in their cramped shared room, he was abruptly awakened by a voice calling him. This voice was distinctively different from the many whispers that had tormented him in the past, which he had been able to attribute to the deceased souls he knew. Instead, this voice emerged from an empty, expansive void, resonating with a clarity that felt otherworldly. As he stirred from his sleep, he was astonished to find the room filled with ethereal figures—men with silver hair neatly combed back, all adorned in shimmering white garments that emitted a celestial glow. Among them, one figure stood larger than the rest at the kitchen door, beckoning for him with an inviting outstretched arm. Overcome with a compulsion he could hardly comprehend, Bethel crawled towards this figure, and that was his last recollection of that extraordinary encounter. The following morning, upon waking, his mother was curious and inquired about what he had experienced during the night. She later recounted that she heard him calling out repeatedly in the dark, exclaiming, “There is Jesus.” From that day forward, Bethel experienced a miraculous healing of all the ailments that had once plagued him, and his life transformed dramatically. This angelic visitation became the receipt of his divine calling from God, igniting a deep spiritual awakening within him at such a tender age. He began to earnestly seek God, often retreating to the bush to pray, drawing inspiration from the evangelist who had imparted his name, a man known for his dedication to prayer. Bethel found his spiritual home at Forward in Faith Ministries in the Luveve District. After completing his school education, he took on a position at a company distributing chemicals, where he worked diligently as a salesperson. However, feeling the urge to pursue a more fulfilling path, he eventually left that job to start his own venture in carpet cleaning. Concurrently, he remained deeply involved in church activities and ascended to the position of Youth Ministry chairperson, a role that allowed him to mentor and guide the younger generation within the congregation. Yet, his entrepreneurial pursuits did not endure for long, as he felt a strong leading from God to attend Bible school for formal pastoral training. In response to this divine prompting, he enrolled at Africa Multination for Christ College in Bulawayo, embarking on his journey of theological education. Though he briefly attended the Harare campus, he ultimately returned to the Bulawayo campus to complete his training. Once he had fulfilled his educational commitments, he took on the pastoral leadership of several churches over the next 14 years under the guidance and mentorship of Archbishop Ezekiel Guti.
Where we started
Our Founders – Apostle Bethel & Prophetess Catherine Gwarimbo
In 1999, after a life-changing encounter with God, Apostle Bethel Gwarimbo responded to a divine calling that led him to leave behind a successful career in business. Driven by a passion to serve the Lord, he enrolled at Africa Multi-Nation For Christ College in 2000, where he committed himself to biblical studies and pastoral training.
By the end of 2001, he stepped into full-time ministry and was appointed as a pastor in Z.A.O.G.A. Forward in Faith Ministries International. Alongside his wife, Pastor Catherine Gwarimbo, they faithfully served their congregation with dedication and love until 2014.
Sensing a new direction from the Lord, they launched a new ministry on September 14, 2014—originally known as Prophetic World Revival Ministries, later Beth El Christian Assembly, and today recognized as Kings Life Covenant Church.
What began with a handful of faithful believers has grown into a dynamic, multi-national ministry. From our headquarters in Centurion, Pretoria, Kings Life Covenant Church now reaches lives across South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, and the United Kingdom.
Apostle Bethel and Prophetess Catherine remain passionate about equipping believers, raising leaders, and advancing the Kingdom of God. Their journey is a living testimony of what God can do through surrendered lives—and the best is yet to come!
